Wisconsin COVID-19 Response Bill

On April 15, 2020 the COVID-19 Response Bill  was passed by the Wisconsin State Senate and signed by Governor Evers. This bill ensures Wisconsin is eligible for federal assistance made available through the CARES Act and other COVID-19 related federal legislation.

Here are some key measures included in the bill:

  • Temporarily suspends the one-week waiting period for unemployment benefits
  • Removes co-pays for COVID-19 testing
  • Allows pharmacists to authorize an emergency 30-day refill for most prescription drugs
  • Qualifies Wisconsin for extra federal resources to help fund Medicaid
  • Sets aside $75 million in state funds for future emergency needs that federal dollars don't cover
  • Eases credentialing and insurance requirements to encourage out-of-state and retired healthcare providers to help supplement the number of front-line care workers needed during the emergency
  • Makes it easier for our first responders to qualify for workers’ compensation benefits due to COVID-19 related injuries
  • Provides school districts with the flexibility to complete the school year online
