Attention businesses that have employees in the state of Illinois: On April 13, 2020 the Worker's Compensation Commission in Illinois unilaterally approved an amendment to their worker's compensation law. The amendment states that any employees in an “essential” industry (as defined by Governor Pritzker's Executive Order) who contract COVID-19 are covered by worker's compensation.
The amendment was approved to ensure first responders and front line workers, who are most susceptible to exposure to COVID-19, are afforded the full protections of the Workers’ Compensation Act in the event they are exposed to or contract the virus.
