Prevent Your Pipes From Freezing this Winter

Winter weather is on its way and along with the arctic air comes the risk for frozen pipes. Have you done the following to prepare your home and business this winter?


  • Repair and seal cracks around windows and doors that can allow cold air to reach indoors
  • Seal around pipe openings to prevent cold airflow
  • Remove, drain and store outdoor hoses and close inside valves that supply outdoor lines
  • Open outside valves during winter months so that remaining water can expand without breaking pipes
  • Know the location of the shut-off valve for your water supply
  • Keep the thermostat above 55 degrees, even when traveling
  • Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to give indoor plumbing access to warmer air
  • Allow faucets to drip
  • Monitor water-based fire protection systems

 Doug has over 30 years of insurance industry experience, and has been with Hausmann-Johnson Insurance since 2014. He oversees the sales and service of about 2,000 Personal Lines accounts and welcomes the opportunity to interact with clients whenever they have an insurance need. Doug holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. Prior to joining Hausmann-Johnson Insurance, he gained experience as a manager and producer for AAA, Rural Mutual Insurance, and Met Life. He is a member of the Northside Business Association and the East Side Club and volunteers with them regularly. He also enjoys spending time with his family and attending summer music festivals in the area.
