In Wisconsin, we are fortunate to have a number of very active organizations that have as their mission the support and development of the Human Resources Profession.
I’d like to share information about two organizations that are hosting annual conferences this October.
The Wisconsin Society for Human Resources Management (WISHRM) is hosting their annual State Conference on October 11-13, 2017 at the Kalahari in the Wisconsin Dells. This conference will draw more than 1000 participants and will feature national and local subject matter expert speakers. No matter what your human resources related responsibilities are, the conference has learning opportunities that will meet your needs.
Business owners and managers should also consider attending the conference as human resources topics and employee engagement are very important for business success.
You might ask yourself, “Is it worth two days of my time to attend?” The answer is a resounding “yes!” You will have the opportunity to learn best practices for hiring and retaining employees in a tough labor market. You can get current information about employment law and compliance and lower your risk for an expensive lawsuit (including discrimination, wage & hour, etc.). Certainly one of the things I look forward to at the conference is re-connecting with friends and former co-workers that I have had the pleasure of working with over the years.

The Association of Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin (ABC of Wisconsin) is one of the very few chapters in the United States to host a Human Resources conference. ABC is an organization created to support its member companies in the construction industry. The organization provides training in a wide array of apprenticeship, field level, and management education along with safety and human resources training.
ABC of Wisconsin will again host its annual Human Resources Conference October 25 – 26 at the Kalahari in the Wisconsin Dells. This year’s training tracks fall into the categories of ‘War for Talent’, ‘HR Boot Camp’ (Basics of HR), ‘Human Resources’, and ‘Accounting’.
Individuals who are in the construction industry or in companies supporting the construction industry should consider attending. If you are in that industry, you are aware of the particular challenges that construction employers are experiencing relating to sourcing, training, and managing the labor pool that you need to fulfil your contracts. This conference is designed with your industry specific needs in mind.
