Increased Enforcement of Public Health Orders for Restaurants and Taverns

Public Health of Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) is receiving increasing complaints of non-compliance related to restaurants and taverns exceeding the 25% indoor capacity restrictions; employees not wearing face coverings or not wearing them properly; employees not physically distancing; and customers not physically distancing. Due to this, PHMDC and the Madison Police Department will be shifting their focus to enforcement to address Order violations, which carry a penalty of up to $1,000 per violation.

If you do not currently have the following in place, it is of high importance to take the time now to implement the following policies and procedures to avoid penalties:

  • Written and implemented hygiene policy and procedure
  • Written and implemented cleaning policy and procedure
  • Written and implemented protective measure policy and procedure
  • Documented staff receipt, acknowledgement, or training on the policies
  • Post the Workplace Requirements for Employers and Workers signage
  • Post PHMDC’s Mask Required signage (or a similar sign)
