The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) requires covered employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. However, for health care providers, emergency responders, and businesses with fewer than 50 employees, if “the viability of the business is in jeopardy,” there is a special exemption from providing leave due to child care/school availability.
