As a Workers' Compensation Claims Counselor, you will use your expertise in the areas of claim management, client advocacy, and thought leadership. This role requires prompt and courteous service to clients, advanced problem-solving skills, and outstanding communication & empathy skills.


  • Claim management: Set up, monitor, and analyze property and casualty claims with a strong emphasis on workers' compensation claims. Actively audit open lost-time work comp claims and identify opportunities for cost containment or experience modification reductions.
  • Client advocacy: Aggressively advocate on behalf of HG’s clients while also building and nurturing strong, meaningful relationships with claims professionals at HG’s carrier partners.
  • Coaching and thought leadership: Educate clients on the claims process and manage client and producer expectations. Identify trends, challenges, and opportunities in the marketplace and share that insight with clients and colleagues.


  • Minimum of three years’ experience adjusting lost time workers' compensation claims; preference for experience adjusting claims for Wisconsin-based employees
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a knack for persuasion
  • Strong computer skills and an affinity for mastering new tools and processes
  • Hold – or obtain within three months of hire – a valid Wisconsin Property & Casualty Agent’s license


  • Familiarity with calculating and analyzing an organization’s workers' compensation experience modification factor
  • Strong data analysis skills and the ability to identify meaningful claim frequency and severity trends
  • Experience with hosting claim reviews, client/prospect presentations, and training workshops
